Native Now: Spring Flowering Trees and Shrubs

Event Description

Learn about the native plants of Louisiana, which are better adapted to the extreme conditions of our area. These sessions take place in the Wild Garden, a garden devoted to featuring native plants in an idealized setting. After each presentation, participants will receive a complimentary native plant. This program is free, thanks to a generous grant from the Greater New Orleans Foundation Environmental Fund, but reservations are required. This panel discussion will highlight the rich history and revitalization of Pontchartrain Park, the first suburban subdivision built for African Americans in New Orleans. It will also provide an opportunity to meet community leaders such as Tommye Myrick (activist and owner of the JuJu Bag Cafe), Jacques Morial, and others.

Presented by the PRC's African American Heritage Preservation program, chaired by Janie Blackmon and Bridget Carter.

The Tulane Architecture and Business team won THIRD prize in the national
2008 JP Morgan Chase Community Competition with their design of a Pontilly
Senior Village. This resulted in a gift of $10,000 to Pontilly to continue
with the R & D for the project.
